[Harp-L] Johnny Dyer

It is with great sadness that I read Michael Rubin's notice about the death of Johnny Dyer. During my 8 years as a resident of Los Angeles (1980-1988) I witnessed Johnny's great harp playing on a number of occasions. At the benefit for George Smith where the cream of L.A.s blues community played (Pee Wee Crayton, Johnny Dyer, Bill Clarke, Rod Piazza, etc.), he was the epitome of graciousness, loaning Bill the use of his own amp when Bill's Bassman refused to operate properly. He was a true gentleman of the blues, and a very warm person, who sang and played beautifully and with passion. He was truly an under-appreciated artist who deserved more than he got out of life. Yes, Michael, he was a legend, unknown by far too many folks who play his instrument. Pete Sheridan
